What is a frenulum?
Frenules are small bands of tissue located under the tongue or between the lips and gums. When they are too short or thick, they can cause functional limitations, especially in children.
WHEN IS FRENULA TREATMENT NECESSARY?
In cases of tongue tie that prevents speech (ankyloglossia)
Known as “tongue-tied,” this condition can limit tongue movement and negatively affect speech, swallowing, and feeding.
If the upper lip frenulum causes a gap between the front teeth
An overdeveloped frenulum can create a visible space (diastema) between the two front teeth, affecting the aesthetic appearance.
When the frenulum causes tension on dentures
In patients with dentures, a frenulum that exerts excessive pressure can affect the stability and comfort of the denture.
In cases where the frenulum causes gum recession
Frenulum that is placed too close to the gums can pull on the gingival tissue, contributing to tooth root recession and sensitivity.
